About Marty Knapp and his photography

Marty Knapp lives in Point Reyes Station, California with his wife Jean and their two canine companions, Lily and Flor. His studio there is where he makes his fine black & white photographs. Marty’s iconic landscapes of the Point Reyes area are in public and private collections world-wide. Photographs from his collection have appeared in Lenswork as well as the book: The World’s Top Photographers. In 2007 his book, Point Reyes 20 Years, received the bronze medal for photography in the Independent Publisher Book Awards international competition.

Knapp’s images express his fascination with light, form and texture, whether found in the coastal landscape near his home or in his creative macro compositions . Marty’s most recent photography explores the galactic night sky above Point Reyes and the California desert. His life’s work since 1986 has been in creating fine photographs and coaching others how to make their own creative images.

After more than forty years of traditional darkroom printing, Marty now uses state-of-the-art digital equipment and technique. Today, he still makes his prints one by one, crafting them for beauty and archival permanence in his Point Reyes studio.

The Marty Knapp Photo Gallery, in Point Reyes Station, is open from 11-5PM, Friday through Sunday and also by appointment. Numbered and signed editions can be selected there or from his website.
