Musician; Brazilian Swing, Jazz Vocals
“Alluring earthy sweet-and-sour, mellow and rhythmically assured vocals ” of Dee Bell and the ebullient Brazilian accompaniment of the Marcos Silva Trio dazzle their audiences with every performance. [ – James Gavin]
Long-time veterans of the Bay Area professional music scene and former Concord Jazz recording artists, both Marcos and Dee have performed for more than thirty-seven years each. In their recent collaboration Silva • Bell • Elation, Dee’s swing vocals float in her relaxed behind-the-beat style over Marco’s exciting Brazilian-rooted rhythms for a subtle new yin and yang merging of music that covers a wide genre of material from Tin Pan Alley standards to Joni Mitchell and Neil Young.
Stan Getz, Eddie Duran and Eddie Jefferson all fell in love with Dee’s sound when she first appeared on the Bay Area scene. Dee’s album with Stan Getz and Eddie Duran on the Concord label ran in the top ten in National Jazz airplay charts for two months. She had developed her sound from the porch where she sang to the valley from her Bloomington, Indiana cottage situated on the edge of the Hoosier National Forest. A second Concord album with Tom Harrell and Eddie Duran hit the top twenty in the National charts.
