YOUR NONPROFIT RESOURCE FOR ARTS IN MARIN

Larry Bryson

My artist statement relates to Milton Avery’s comment that, If I could write it, I would not need to paint. For me, words interfere, and are too narrow to explain what is visual. Early on in school I was walking through a forest and creek to get there and back. Teachers and parents were asking about what birds, bugs, and plants were doing something today. While I was always interested in art, there was also biology everywhere. College botany classes were also very interested in drawing structures and life cycles.

My images’ levels of abstraction may rise and fall, but proportions, structures, and colors tend to emphasize the real and observed.
