Before the holidays in December, I visited David Maisel in his new studio at Headlands Center for the Arts when he was in his third month of being engrossed in his new practice. I witnessed his artistic transition from photographs to paintings in person.

At Charles Anselmo’s exhibition of new work at Gallery Route One, the large photographs printed on paper and 8-foot wide silks interpret the textured rubble of a decaying and overgrown hundred-year-old, abandoned and ornate Teatro Campoamor in Havana, Cuba. Maria has felt challenged since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in producing art in her typical productive fashion.
