MORE ABOUT POETRY OUT LOUD
This year marks the 11th time the California Arts Council has produced the annual State Poetry Out Loud competition—the largest of its kind in the nation, with over 40,000 students in 35 California counties participating. The program encourages high school students to learn about poetry through memorization, performance, and competition.

Poetry Out Loud (POL) is an extraordinary opportunity for high school students to learn great poetry, perform it, and win prizes – including a trip to Washington D.C. for the California State Champion to compete in the national finals. It is a free program that helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, learn about their literary heritage and compete for college scholarship funding. Nationwide, POL has grown every year with millions of students participating in every state, Washington, DC, the US Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
