Baroque + Jazz = Sax Fusion

Premiere Saxophone Quartet plays Bach, Bernstein, Gershwin, and more!
The Premiere Saxophone Quartet is an exciting chamber ensemble that is actively encouraging composers to write new works for the saxophone quartet.
Since their founding in 2005 they have premiered several new works written for the quartet, including Laura Karpman’s “Take Four” for saxophone quartet and chamber orchestra, David Carlson’s “Incendiary Devices,” and French composer, Lucie Robert-Diessel’s “Issos” for saxophone quartet and piano. The PSQ regularly collaborates with other musicians, including the San Jose Chamber Orchestra, and pianist, Victoria DiMaggio-Lington.
Join them as they perform some Baroque favorites as well as a “fusion” of jazz and baroque called “Fugue Well Tampered,” which is a wonderful blend of a couple of Bach fugues that go into a cool jazz feel a la the Modern Jazz Quartet. The “West Side Story” arrangement will include five of the most well-known pieces from this jazz-influenced musical and helps celebrate the 100th birthday of Leonard Bernstein.
The members, Dale Wolford (soprano saxophone), Kevin Stewart (alto saxophone), David Henderson (tenor saxophone), and Aaron Lington (baritone saxophone) are all San Francisco Bay Area freelance musicians, performing in a wide variety of settings including the San Francisco Symphony, Ballet and Opera, Symphony Silicon Valley, Opera San Jose, George Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch Orchestra, as well as more commercial groups like the Temptations, Chaka Khan, and others.
