Presented by Youth Poster Contest at RileyStreet Art Supply, San Rafael CA

May 01 - 31 2018
Call For Entry: 2018 Youth Poster Contest

Marin youth, ages 12 through 18, are encouraged to submit a poster that communicates their hopes and concerns about social justice, climate change, gun control, immigration, women’s rights and other issues important to them

Youth Poster Contest Submission Opens on May 1, with deadline May 31

All posters must be delivered to RileyStreet Art Supply, 1138 4th St. in San Rafael.

The poster contest provides an unprecedented and very public platform for youth to stand up and speak out. The Youth Poster Contest has been strongly endorsed by the Marin County Office of Education.

A primary focus of this year’s contest is to reach out and engage youth in underserved communities.

Free in-school workshops have been held at Marin Oaks alternative high school in Novato, Bayside/Martin Luther King, Junior Academy in Marin City, and on May 1 at Davidson Middle School in San Rafael. Additionally, open-to-the-public poster workshops have been held at RileyStreet Art Supply and during Earth Day festivities at Tam High School.

Over $2,000 in prizes will be awarded in the two age categories of 12-14 and 15-18. Zoe Jaros, last year’s winner in the 12-14 age category, said, “I am learning more and more about how art communicates feelings and emotions, unique points of view, history, and can carry the message of social change.”

Following the contest, there will be a Bay Area Poster Exhibition Tour of the winning posters. Beginning with a special presentation at the Marin County Fair over the July 4th weekend, proceeding to the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art, and following with exhibitions at the Haight Street Art Center in San Francisco and RileyStreet Art Supply in San Rafael.

The 2018 Youth Poster Contest is presented in partnership by RileyStreet Art Supply, Bank of Marin, Marin County Fair, Marin Community Foundation, Marin County Office of Education, The Rock Poster Society and Haight Street Art Center.

The contest is produced, pro bono, by Bruce Burtch.
