What do you get if you take a jazz combo and a funk band and put them together? At Redwood High School, you get Canopy, a smokin’ hot, 10-piece R&B big band.
Powered by a trio of singers, a pair of guitarists, a bassist, two drummers and a punchy horn section, Canopy rips through Carl Carton’s “She’s a Bad Mama Jama,” Lenny Kravitz’s “It Ain’t Over till it’s Over” and “On the Sly” by the Bamboos.
The group is the combination of Sequoia, Redwood’s top jazz combo, and the blues, funk and soul band High Tide. Put them under the same tent and you get Canopy.
Canopy features singers Aaron Halford, Bryte Darden and Audrey Smith, guitarists Matthew Michna and Max Lukianchicov, bassist Jake Baldwin, drummers John Van Liere and Karl Tietze and trumpet player Jason Seavey.
