Agave Baroque plays music of Corelli, Charpentier, Carissimi, Lully
Marin Baroque Presents:
Agave Baroque, featuring soprano Jennifer Paulino:
Charpentier in Rome
Italian music and style was so dominant throughout much of the 17th century, musicians from all over the place flocked to Italy to learn the secrets and absorb the style.
Marc-Antoine Charpentier studied in Rome and was heavily influenced by Giacomo Carissimi. Meanwhile, the French musical scene, which was dominated by Jean-Baptiste Lully (who was himself Italian), provides the backdrop for a delightful fantasy about Lully and and the great Italian violinist Arcangelo Corelli meeting and creating “a new perfection in music” as a part of a “great style reunion.”
Agave Baroque with guest soprano soloist Jennifer Paulino present a program featuring motet pairings by Carissimi and Charpentier, Tartini’s and Clérambault’s treatment of Dido’s lament, and Jean-Fery Rebel’s adaptation of the Italian style, as well as Francois Couperin’s sublime Apothéose de Lully.
