A sculpture workshop with artist Rebecca Love on the art and technique of plaster face casts and molding the face in clay
This ancient process can be traced as far back as the Egyptians, if not further.
First a mold is made using plaster wraps that create a negative of the facial image. The mask is taken off (very gently) after about 15 minutes. Afterwards, the mold comes back to the studio to set up for a day or two.
When the creative process is to begin, clay is cast into the mold and it sets up overnight. The clay cast is pulled from the mold the next day and then the sculpting work begins. The eyes are sculpted open, features are refined, and embellishments are added to surround the face.
In this hands-on workshop with artist, Rebecca Love you will learn how to do all of these processes and you will create your own clay mask sculpture.
Bring your favorite clay sculpting and modeling tools, and a ware board to carry your work home on.
Also bring a bag lunch, or local places are nearby if you want to buy your lunch.
