We invited artists to submit work that expresses the hidden or mysterious, the raw and visceral, the ominous or unwanted. What do shadows illuminate? What does darkness obscure?

Juror:  Shane Izykowski

Shane Izykowski lives and works in San Francisco, CA. Shane works as a full time painter and sculptor at his studio at Pacific Felt Factory showing in galleries and exhibitions from San Francisco to LA to Chicago. He is the host of the “Drawing From Experience” podcast, a weekly show dedicated to practical, motivational and inspirational advice for artists in today’s world.

His work is a definitive collection of past experience, new challenges and personal growth. He has spent a great deal of time experimenting with music, fine art, special effects, makeup, filmmaking, writing, costuming, mural work and photography. Shane was accepted into the Artspan Residency Program, been listed in the 40 under 40 by the Pocono record, and had his costumes featured on national television. Shane proudly stands alongside others in the Dark Art movement, which is growing steadily from a very select few cities around the globe.

Shane’s mission, through his artwork, is to depict the depth of the human experience through the exploration of visceral imagery, honest emotion and the common threads that tie us all together. It revolves around the idea of healing, despite emotional turmoil, trauma and grief.
