Author Event: The Stress Prescription will transform our stressful lives into more regenerative joy

Online author event

Personal and societal stress add up in our bodies every day. We wake up with it, carry it with us like heavy luggage, pile on more throughout our daily routines, and wrap ourselves in it as we fall asleep. Even if we are not aware of it.

We are often on high battery mode and exhausted by the end of day. But we don’t have to live this way. We can put down the luggage. We can live on a more powerful battery mode, using the regenerative energy of joy and purpose.

Dr. Elissa Epel is a New York Times bestselling author (The Telomere Effect) with a plan to turn stress into strength in her new book, The Stress Prescription: Seven Days to More Joy and Ease.

As a leader in the fields of stress and biological aging, she is acutely aware of the ill effects of chronic stress on our health. But her research also explores how we can transform our relationship to stress—how we can stress better through positive stress mindsets, such as viewing stress as an exciting challenge rather than a threat, and how we can find true relief from feeling overwhelmed.

Dr. Epel’s 7-day plan equips the reader with practical, science-based tools from her decades of research, from the larger field, and from contemplative wisdom. Use the power of the mind, and body-up strategies (“stress fitness”) to promote healthy “red mind” states, and down shift to “blue mind” –triggering safety signals, ease and deep rest.

Elissa Epel, PhD is an internationally renowned health psychologist who is focusing on how to live well and thrive with existential stress, despite the challenges we face personally and globally. She is a professor at UCSF and the director of UCSF’s Aging, Metabolism, and Emotion Center. She is a member of the National Academy of Medicine, past president of Academy of Behavioral Medicine, and serves on scientific advisory committees for the National Institutes of Health. She has received awards from Stanford University, the Society of Behavioral Medicine, and the American Psychological Association. She is the coauthor of the New York Times bestseller The Telomere Effect which is in 30 languages.
