**POSTPONED** Literary agents discuss short, easy-to-implement manuscript advice for writers

We are canceling all author events through the end of March, due to the public health advisory for the COVID-19 virus.

We hope to reschedule as many of these and other events as we can after this crisis is over.

The store remains open for normal business during regular hours. It will stay open as long as possible. We believe the shopping environment in our stores is safe for both our employees and customers.

The bad news: even really good manuscripts have weak spots that are enough to garner rejections from agents and publishers.

The good news: most of these problems are easy to fix—once the writer sees and understands them.

After several years of evaluating manuscripts, literary agent Elizabeth Kracht noticed that many submissions had similar problems, so she began to make a list of the pitfalls. The Author’s Checklist offers her short, easy-to-implement bites of advice, illustrated by inspiring—and cautionary—real-world examples.

Most aspiring authors yearn for a friend in book publishing, and The Author’s Checklist is just that.

Elizabeth K. Kracht is a literary agent with Kimberley Cameron & Associates and a freelance editor. She holds a bachelor’s degree in technical writing from New York Institute of Technology. She has lived in New York, San Francisco, and San Juan, Puerto Rico, and regularly participates in writers’ conferences nationally and internationally.

Kimberley Cameron has been a literary agent for 28 years. She recently sold Senator Barbara Boxer’s Memoir, The Art of Tough to Hachette, and the new Willie Mays book, 24, Life Stories and Lessons from Say Hey Kid will be released shortly. She has started the careers of many debut authors, which she loves and finds thrilling.
