Abstractions of natural motifs painted edge-to-edge devoid of foreground or horizon lines
Exhibition Dates:
* July 10 – August 21
[Pictured: Big Blue, 2020, Oil on linen, 72 x 72 inches]
This body of work represents the results of the last fourteen months Gail Chase-Bien spent at her alternate studio near Mendocino overlooking the Pacific Ocean and surrounded by redwood forests and natural environs.
As in the past, these new works are abstractions of natural motifs painted from edge to edge devoid of foreground or horizon lines thus reducing her narrative to subtle suggestion.
She also frequently draws upon art historical sources with a nod to artists and styles of the past that have provided inspiration.
