Gustavo Ramos Rivera is a greatly revered painter, sculptor and master printmaker. Born in 1940, Rivera has worked and exhibited in San Francisco since his arrival from the state Coahuila Mexico in 1969.

His work is a unique fusion of lush colorful patterns inspired from the brightly painted homes of Mexican villages, the tribal folk art and costumes that surrounded him as a young man. He combines this with a vigorous expressive painting style influenced by Abstract Expressionism and Mexican Modernist painters.

This exhibition will include works of both traditional oil on canvas and his seldom seen early Combines, that creatively employ re-purposed materials that he collages on to the surface of these objects to create three dimensional forms that blur the line between painting and sculpture.

Also a printmaker extraordinaire Rivera works in intaglio, lithography and monotype often combining all of these media as well as drawing and collage to create unique works on paper. This will be his first Major exhibition to be seen in Marin County.

His work can be seen public collections throughout the United States and Mexico including: Fine Art Museums of San Francisco’s Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts, the Mexican Museum, San Francisco, California, the San Francisco International Airport, and at the San Jose Museum of Art, San Jose California. Private collectors include, Jason Fish, Robert & Emily Marcus, Tom Steyer and Kat Taylor, of San Francisco, and Manuel Neri, Benicia, California.
