Do you want to effect change in our society? Due to its popularity prior to the 2020 presidential election, we have extended the Civic Minded Club through April 2021.
Topics to be explored are the current global political climate, the Constitution, inequalities in the political and economic systems, the state of America and its citizens today, and alternatives for our future.
Join facilitator Sarah Broderick and your neighbors to address the issues.
The first book that will be discussed on December 16th is OMG WTF Does the Constitution Say Anyway? by Ben Sheehan.
Sarah Broderick works as a writer, editor, creative writing instructor, and part-time assistant at the Mill Valley Public Library. She is a rotating editor at The Forge Literary Magazine and served as Diaspora Editor for Lavil: Life, Love, and Death in Port-au-Prince.
January 6: On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century (2017) by Timothy Snyder
January 27: Them: Why We Hate Each Other–And How to Heal by Ben Sasse
February 17: You’re Not Listening: What You’re Missing and Why It Matters by Kate Murphy
March 10: Citizen: An American Lyric by Claudia Rankine
March 31: What Unites Us: Reflections on Patriotism by Dan Rather
April 21: Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson
Once you have registered, our staff will help make a copy of the book available. Please commit to reading the book and attending the discussion if you register as supplies and space are limited.
