LOCAL>> Writing in the Self-Conscious Anthropocene, a Creative Writing Lecture and Reading

A free virtual creative writing event hosted by Dominican University’s Creative Writing MFA Program

Join Dominican University’s MFA in Creative Writing Program for a free virtual creative writing event.

This event brings together scholarly and creative perspectives on urgent environmental concerns.

Lynn Keller, scholar and author of Recomposing Ecopoetics, will lecture on contemporary poetry. Her talk examines how 21st century poets write with a consciousness that human activity is causing environmental degradation.

Forrest Gander, winner of the Pulitzer Prize in Poetry, will read from his recent writings.

Lynn Keller is the Martha Meier Renk-Bascom Professor of Poetry Emerita at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she taught in the English department for almost forty years. Prior to her retirement, she served from 2016-2019 as the director of the Center for Culture, History, and Environment (CHE) in the Nelson Insitute for Environmental Studies, which brought with it the honor of being the Bradshaw Knight Professor of the Environmental Humanities.

Forrest Gander is the author of several collections of poetry, including Twice Alive (New Directions, 2021) and Be With (New Directions, 2018), winner of the 2019 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry. The collection was also longlisted for the 2018 National Book Award in Poetry. His 2011 collection Core Samples from the World (New Directions) was a finalist for the 2012 Pulitzer Prize. Gander is also the author of multiple essay collections. With John Kinsella, he coauthored Redstart: An Ecological Poetics (University of Iowa Press, 2012).

This creative writing event is a service to the public and there is no charge for participating. Dominican University of California is a nonprofit institution.
