Since their first album in 1995, Venezuela’s Los Amigos Invisibles have developed a sound based on the Gozadera, an irresistible fusion of Latin rhythms with fiery funk and lounge music. The band´s name comes from the television show Human Values by Venezuelan historian Arturo Uslar Pietri, which remained on the air for two decades.
Pietri always dedicated the show to his Invisible Friends referring to his audience. Los Amigos Invisibles got their big break in the U.S. when David Byrne of Talking Heads discovered one of their albums by chance in a Manhattan record shop, and signed them to his label, Luaka Bop. In addition to releasing eleven critically-acclaimed albums, the band members–Julio Briceño, “Chulius” (Voz), Juan Manuel Roura, “Mamel” (Batería), and José Torres, “Catire” (Bajo)– have been lauded internationally for their explosive live shows, touring nearly 60 countries.
