Midweek Musical Matinee: Wind and Strings

Come join us for a live, in-person concert filled with beautiful music and interesting insights.

Midweek Musical Matinee:
Wind and Strings – Classical Music Throughout the Ages
* Wednesday, October 11, 1:00 pm – 2:15 pm

Join us for a very special, live performance by a duo who, both accomplished musicians in their own rights, join forces today to play a beautiful concert!

Asaf Ophir and Amelia Romano collaborate to present some of their favorite classical melodies and the stories behind them.

With harp, clarinet, flute, and saxophone, they offer new arrangements for timeless classics, with a breath of romanticism and even a hint of jazz.

Save! Get “Early Bird” by purchasing online by October 10.

Asaf Ophir began his career in Israel as a woodwind player in musical theater, performing on some of the most distinguished stages in the country.

Currently based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Ophir is often invited to collaborate with artists from a wide variety of cultures, including Jewish, Arabic, European, Persian, Kurdish, and others.

Equally at home with classical, jazz, and world music, Ophir has shared the stage with Miri Mesika, Avi Kushnir, Galit Giat, David De’or, Ustad Mahwash, Rana Farhan, and Barbara Streisand.

The San Francisco Chronicle writes: “Asaf Ophir gives the clarinet the timbre of a trumpet, then a violin, then a raspy scream… the instrument’s wail almost becomes too plaintive and beautiful to bear.”

Amelia Romano
An eclectic blend of austere serenity and kinetic vibrancy, Amelia Romano takes what is known about conventional harp and surpasses it every time.

Pulling from her roots in the cultural hotbed of San Francisco, Amelia not only plays music from the repertoire but reprises it and creates originals. Latin American music, jazz, and classical are all genres that she touches, but her music defines its own path.

This summer she will release a solo album, Levers Engaged: Classical Works Re-imaged for Harp and book Classical Re-imaginations for Lever Harp, featuring selected works from her recent master’s recital series at San Francisco State University.
