Mr. Klein - Newly Restored French Classic!

Kafka-esque thriller set in Paris, 1942

Set in 1942 during the Nazi occupation of Paris, art-dealer Robert Klein has a well-furnished flat, a comfortable living buying paintings and sculptures at bargain prices from Jews desperate to flee France, and cannot find any fault with the state of affairs in German-occupied France.

His cozy life is disrupted when he realizes that there is another Robert Klein in Paris – a Jew with rather mysterious behavior. Very soon, this identity homonym attracts the close – and menacing – attention of the police on the established art trader.

This Kafkaesque tale of doppelgangers and duplicity won three César Awards (the French Oscars) in 1977, including Best Director and Best Film.

Director Joseph Losey
