Patricia Oji Artist Statement:
I am a contemporary painter working in a realistic style, and I like to present familiar subjects in a new way.
The animals in this new exhibition are portraits from the heart.
Some are beloved pets reimagined, others are barnyard friends who have crossed my path, still others are fantastical bugs of remarkable color and individuality. While there is a story behind each portrait, they all celebrate the close and sometimes symbiotic relationships between humans and animals.
We give sanctuary to a feral cat, we watch a rooster strike a pose, we see a crab so alive that it crawls off the wall. We meet a variety of tiny bugs that are essential to our survival.
