Dynamic high-spirited jazz from Bay Area musician, producer and educator Richard Howell
Richard Howell calls the Bay Area home, but he’s been a leading light on the international scene for decades.
A riveting improviser who is also a prolific producer and respected educator, he’s worked and recorded with leading figures in rock, pop, blues and jazz, from Etta James, Chaka Khan, Della Reese, Don Cherry, and Cecil Taylor to Charlie Haden, Willie Bobo, Pete Escovedo, Maurice White, Charlie Musselwhite and Carlos Santana.
Having traveled around the world practicing his craft both as musician and educator, he currently lectures throughout Europe, conducting a series entitled “Jazz Tree,” which focuses on the history of jazz and leading the superbly dynamic high-spirited jazz ensemble, Sudden Changes.
“I have the deepest respect for his musical abilities. He walks in the same path as the great ones: Joe Henderson, Don Myrick to be mentioned in the same light. I have a great belief in his talents. He will continue to make contributions in the time to come.”– Maurice White, founder of Earth, Wind & Fire
