The Tin Woman

A comedy based on a true story using humor and pathos to explore loss, family bonds, and what it means to be given new life

Ross Valley Players: The Tin Woman

Written by Sean Grennan
Directed by Michael Barr

At the Barn Theater

Based on a true story, The Tin Woman uses humor and pathos to explore loss, family, and what it means to be given a new life.

Instead of relishing life after her heart transplant, Joy enters a downward spiral, unsure of whether she truly deserves a second chance. Meanwhile, Alice and Hank mourn the loss of their son, Jack, whose heart was used to save Joy.

At a friend’s urging, Joy tracks down Jack’s family to find closure. But are Alice, Hank, and their daughter Sammy ready to accept Jack’s death?

Sean Grennan was an actor for many years, predominantly in Chicago, where he began writing for the theatre in 1995 as co-librettist with his wife, Kathy Santen. His play LUCK! won an honorable mention from the National Writer’s Association’s Playwriting Festival and was produced in New York City by the Epic Theatre Company. Other works include Rodeo, Married Alive!, A Dog’s Life, Another Night Before Christmas, Making God Laugh, Beer for Breakfast and As Long As We Both Shall Live.

Michael Barr has performed throughout the Bay Area with companies such as Theatre Lunatico, TheatreFIRST, Porchlight Theatre, Crowded Fire, Livermore Shakespeare Festival, SF Shakes, and The Pear Theatre, among others.  His recent directing credits include A Streetcar Named Desire for Novato Theater Company, Rabbit Hole for Breach Once More, and is slated to direct Measure for Measure this summer with Theatre Lunatico, where he is a core company member. This is his first time working with Ross Valley Players.
