White Buffalo Woman Council - Healing Drumming

Join us in Miwok Park for a drum circle of healing songs by WBWC

As our first public event since the pandemic, the MAI is very pleased to welcome the White Buffalo Woman Council (WBWC), which will share healing songs in a drum circle on Sunday, July 11, at 11:00 AM.

Can there be a better time for healing music? This is a great opportunity to come together to connect under the clear skies and trees in Miwok Park. The WBWC is an Indigenous women’s group of seven inter-tribal Indigenous women in Marin County who focus on mental, emotional, physical, and/or spiritual healing. The WBWC was founded in 2016.

Member Barbara Clifton-Zarate points out that tradition and contemporary research indicate that drumming increases physical healing, boosts the immune system, helps release emotional trauma while also creating deep relaxation, lowering blood pressure, and reducing stress. She continues, “We are a light-hearted group that offers attendees healing songs for the release of tension and stress and for their healing. We offer prayers to those who are suffering and for those who have crossed over.”

Board member Dez Mikkelson is also a member of WBWC. Board president Henry Frank, a noted artist and photographer, will offer a song of prayer.

The Museum Store will be open with new items to check out. Visitors can also take a peek at the upcoming exhibit in process in the main gallery on Dolls of the Americas.

The event will be outside, socially distanced. We will have chairs for those who need them. We encourage anyone who is not vaccinated to please wear a mask.

We look forward to seeing you there!
