June Yokell’s work is bold and expressive in the use of handling of materials regardless of subject matter.  Her focus derives from her love of the physicality of the natural world, combined with a deep sense of the wonder of life.

She grew up in New Jersey, lived in Massachusetts and Vermont, moved to the San Francisco Bay area in 1970 where she continues to live with her husband, the artist, Steven Andresen.

She knew she was an artist when she was eight years old, and her earliest influence was her grandmother who lived next door to an art school in the Adirondack Mountains, in Elizabethtown, NY. Other influences include the late sculptor Dennis Leon, the poet Steven Ajay, artists Phillip Geraci and Joey De Martelly. She received her BFA and MFA from California College of Arts and Crafts, now known as California College of the Arts.

She has been in numerous group and one person shows locally, regionally and nationally, and has had her work shown at the US Embassy in Dubai, Kuwait. She has work at the Zuckerberg/Chan Acute Care Center in San Francisco, and at the Stanford Cancer Center in Palo Alto, CA. She’s received two partial fellowships for residencies at the Vermont Studio Center. Currently she teaches drawing and painting in the Community Education Department at College of Marin, Kentfield, CA.
