Stapleton Ballet presents Coppelia & Repertory Works, featuring Balanchine choreography and the music of George Gershwin
At The Playhouse in San Anselmo, Stapleton Ballet presents COPPÉLIA, a delightful story ballet that appeals to all ages!
Coppélia is the story of a mysterious inventor, Dr. Coppelius, who has made an enchanting, life-size dancing doll.
Franz, a village youth who is engaged to his sweetheart Swanhilda, flirts and becomes infatuated with Dr. Coppelius’ life-like dancing doll, Coppélia. Swanhilda decides to play a trick on both Franz and Dr. Coppelius by dressing as the doll and pretending to come to life!
This lighthearted ballet has been performed by many world-renowned companies, and was first presented in 1870. Coppélia features a gorgeous score by Leo Delibes.
The second act of this performance will feature Repertory Works, including Balanchine’s WHO CARES (set to the music of George Gershwin) and Cynthia Stanley’s INLET.
