SERVICES FOR PATRONS WITH DISABILITIES AND THE PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED

The Mountain Play has a long history of making theater accessible to the entire community. The Mountain Play tradition is an experience that we want to share with everyone who has a desire to participate. For that reason, we go the extra mile to ensure a happy Mountain Play experience for those who have special needs. We are very proud of the improvements made over the last few years in logistical handling of these important services. Apparently, others are impressed as well. In November of 1997, the Mountain Play received an award in recognition of its accommodations for patrons with disabilities from the Marin Center for Independent Living. We are very honored and gratified that the community, which we are endeavoring to serve, has told us that we’re doing a good job.

INTERPRETING FOR PATRONS WITH HEARING IMPAIRMENT

This year, we continue our tradition of signing performances for hearing impaired patrons. ASL Interpretation service is available at 3 performances on May 20, June 3 and June 10, 2018.  Purchase your ticket online. No special reservation is necessary.

SPECIAL VEHICLE PARKING FOR WHEELCHAIR USERS (RESERVATIONS REQUIRED)

Madrone Grove – located inside the theater in close proximity to the wheelchair platform. Madrone is only available to wheelchair users who drive their own specially equipped vehicles and for vans carrying multiple wheelchair patrons. This lot has room for 6 vehicles and is accessible only to patrons who have received a Mountain Play parking permit. Please call to make a reservation early in the season if you need to take advantage of this parking facility.

PLATFORM FOR PATRONS IN WHEELCHAIRS (RESERVATIONS REQUIRED)

The other prominent feature of the Mountain Play’s effort to accommodate patrons’ needs is our wheelchair platform that can seat up to 8 wheelchairs with 1 companion each at every performance. Platform seating is available only for wheelchair users and one companion. Additional members of the party can find seating nearby or, if elderly and infirm, in the row directly below the platform and affectionately known as, “the lower level.” Space is very limited in this row and is only available to those patrons who truly need it. Seating on the platform and the lower level is by reservation only. Reservations are made at the discretion of the staff and on a first come, first served basis. Reservations are necessary for this special section and must be made in advance of the performance day. Please call the office at (415) 383-1100 early in the season if you are interested in this service.

PLATFORM AND LOWER LEVEL TICKET DISCOUNT PRICES: $30.00

Companions of these patrons pay full ticket price. These reserved tickets are available by calling our office at (415) 383-1100.

TAMALOT – Our Faithful Golf Cart!

Tamalot lives at the front gate between 10:00am and 2:00pm, shuttling mobility-impaired patrons to the head of the short trail that leads to the wheelchair platform. If you are not in a wheelchair, but need some help getting around, this is a great option since you end up exactly in the middle of the theatre, making access to seating much easier. After the performance, Tamalot shuttles patrons back to the front gate where they are either picked up by their ride or board the shuttle bus. Depending on the number of patrons wanting a ride, there can be a bit of a wait, but, for the most part, people have been extremely happy with Tamalot’s service! No reservations required. Tamalot is available upon request, with special thanks to the Kaliski family and Harbor Point Tennis Club!
