American Yogi - Q&A with Filmmaker Steven Newmark

Presented by Lark Theater at Lark Theater

A journey of self-realization and the search for something that is greater than all of us.

American Yogi is an eye-opening and fun autobiographical documentary about a nice Jewish boy from New York who travels to San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury neighborhood and becomes a hippie. He then travels to India to seek his bliss.

There he meets the Indian Saint Neem Karoli Baba (aka Maharaj-ji), made famous in Ram Dass's iconic book Be Here Now. This life-changing journey forces the filmmaker to try and choose between the miracles he experiences in India and life as he previously knew it.

Director Steven Newmark, Ph.D is a practicing psychotherapist and has taught at Spirit Rock Meditation Center and Esalen Institute. He is the author of the book Before Becoming This.

Music by Grammy-nominated musicians Krishna Das and Jai Uttal.

"AMERICAN YOGI will open your heart and just might change your life"
James Baraz, Author of "Awakening Joy"
