Filmmaker Jayne Loader will present and discuss a special screening of this indie cult-classic, digitally restored for its current re-release
Armageddon has never been so darkly funny as in The Atomic Cafe, which juxtaposes Cold War history, propaganda, music and culture, seamlessly crafted from government-produced educational and training films, newsreels and advertisements.
This funny (and frightening) collage movie uses sources that instruct the public how to live and survive in the Atomic Age, and on its original release it popularized naïve 1950s footage recommending a “Duck and Cover” response to nuclear attack.
