In this experiential workshop, we’ll write chants, slam poetry, double voiced and group poems sparked by the power of rhythm, body percussion and breath.
Performance poetry transports audiences, body and heart, straight into the writer-performer's world. But how do you express authentic feeling and also clearly convey poetic ideas and inner landscapes?
This workshop will explore repetition, heartbeat, breath and the power of rhythm, widening that circle of sound to include narrative and non-linear forms. You’ll write chants, slam poetry, double voiced and group poems that delightfully balance on the tight rope between language and song.
Claire Blotter has taught performance & vocal poetry at San Francisco State University, Dominican University and John F. Kennedy University. She represented San Francisco at National Poetry Slams in Boston and Chicago and currently coaches poetry performance in the Poetry Out Loud Program at five Marin high schools.
