Franz Schubert Part Songs and Lieder, Mass in G Major
Pairing the words of his favorite poets to lyrical and sublime music, Franz Schubert created the quintessential German art song, or Lied, that would come to define the genre. The rich contrasts of this young genius are explored in a "Schubertiade" of rarely performed delights.
The hauntingly beautiful Nachtgesang im Wald (Nightsong of the Forest) calls for the atmospheric scoring of horn quartet to accompany the male chorus.
Paul Smith and Jeffrey Paul will provide piano accompaniment for the Lieder and part songs.
Also on the program are Schubert's world-beloved Ave Maria and his Mass in G Major, a gentle yet majestic creation of at 18-year-old prodigy.
Join maestro Boyd Jarrell with the Marin Oratorio Chorus and Orchestra, with guest soloists Rita Lilly and Robert Stafford, to hear tales of lovers sighing at dusk, nights in the forest, the thrilling and terrifying legend of the Erl-Konig, and more.
