Sherry Petrini: After the Dance
Sherri Petrini Artist Statement:
As a kid I would color within the lines, as if neatness mattered most. Today I know there is no way forward in my art without indecision and doubt, and usually a mess. I want to surprise myself, and there is no certain way to do so without putting in the time and having the courage to fail.
The paintings in this exhibit are oils and imagery is sparked by the idea of showing in a theatre. I’ve had a walking disability my whole life so painting dancers who use their bodies to express themselves satisfies my wish to move gracefully in space.
My first home was in Mill Valley, and then my family moved to San Rafael. I later moved back to Mill Valley on my own as a young adult, and lived there happily for the next 15 years. It is a pleasure to be exhibiting my art there.

Elizabeth Harris: Torn
Elizabeth Harris Artist Statement:
My new work examines the passage of time. The wall sculpture and collage are inspired by the post-war art movement in which traditional themes and materials were abandoned, and surfaces were literally attacked. In my process I burn, tear, nail and drill into my surfaces, continually building up and tearing down, finding beauty in this expression of time passing. Each step is an intuitive reaction to the last.
