Mill Valley Philharmonic Winter 2019 Concert Series

Presented by Mill Valley Philharmonic at Mt. Tamalpais United Methodist Church

Dana Sadava, one of the orchestra’s three candidates for a new permanent Artistic Director/Conductor, will lead Mill Valley Philharmonic (MVP) in its second program of the season.

Open Dress Rehearsal:
Wednesday, March 13, 7:00 pm

 

Concerts: 
Friday, March 15, 8:00 pm
Saturday, March 16, 4:00 pm

All performances will be at Mt. Tamalpais United Methodist Church.

The program of classical favorites includes:
- Overture to The Barber of Seville - Gioachino Rossini
- First movement of Concerto #5 for Piano and Orchestra in Eb, Op. 73 “Emperor” - Ludwig van Beethoven
- Symphony #5 in E minor, Op. 64 - Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

Renowned Marin County-based pianist Jim Stopher will join MVP as soloist for the Beethoven Concerto.

 

Now in its 19th season, MVP, which consists of 60 volunteer musicians, presents all of its concerts free of charge. To support these free concerts, and pay for music, rehearsal space, programs, outreach, and everything else necessary to sustain this special organization, MVP relies upon contributions from audience members and local businesses. However, due to the popularity of MVP’s concerts, reservations are strongly suggested. Patrons may reserve tickets and make donations via the MVP website.

Dana Sadava is a conductor of operatic and symphonic repertoire and a new music specialist. She currently serves as Artistic Director of Pasadena Opera, Music Director of the Community Women’s Orchestra, Conductor of the Santa Rosa Symphony Aspirante (youth) Orchestra, guest faculty at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and Director of Chamber Music at The Urban School.

Jim Stopher has an active career as conductor, pianist, composer, and educator. Now in his third season as Music Director of the College of Marin Symphony Orchestra, Stopher recently completed four seasons in the same role with the Joliet Symphony Orchestra.  He is chair of the music department at the College of Marin, where he teaches courses in music theory, repertoire, history, and ear training.

Mill Valley Philharmonic's concerts are admission free.  However, due to the popularity of MVP’s concerts, reservations are strongly suggested.

Concerts on March 15 and 16 will be preceded by a Pre-Concert Talk by Maestra Dana Sadava at 7:15 pm and 4:15 pm respectively.
