The political and social reforms of the Russian Revolution engendered a rethinking of art and artistic practice.
Some artists embraced avant-garde innovations. Others preferred more traditional styles. This talk will survey the key arguments for and against each style, and describe the emergence of the official Soviet style, known as Socialist Realist.
