Learn to capture night photography images on location in this nocturnal workshop
In this 3 session workshop, students will become familiarized with the ins and outs of making successful pictures by night.
You will learn a number of techniques and tricks to capturing images during the night while you photograph San Francisco landmarks oceanside.
Throughout this nighttime adventure, instructor David Egan will serve as your guide to night photography, as well as the technical challenges of capturing images outdoors.
The shooting portion of the workshop will take place at the Sutro Baths, at the very edge of San Francisco. Built in the late 1800s, all that remains of the Sutro Baths are concrete ruins. This is an inspiring and dramatic location to learn night photography, using natural light and/or light painting techniques.
Students will gain a strong grasp on light painting, proper exposure at night, focusing, composition, working with ambient and mixed light, light trails, and capturing stars.
Additionally, students will learn about historic and contemporary photographers that have created intriguing bodies of work at night, including Todd Hido’s mysterious suburban images and Brassaï’s captivating night portraits and city photography.
