Oil paintings concentrating on the local, the immediate, the familiar – Dance Palace Lobby
* Saturday, August 3, 2:00-4:00 pm
Exhibit Dates: July 27 - August 31
Jennifer Thompson Artist Statement:
Feeling daunted by the larger social and political landscape, I prefer to concentrate on the local, the immediate, the familiar.
These subjects soothe my soul and amuse me, as well as reminding me to be grateful to live here in West Marin, with so much natural beauty and so many enjoyable individuals.
I am as interested in the shapes and expressions of people as I am in the landscape – more, maybe. That continues to be the focus of my painting. I take pictures of people I want to paint and work slowly, in oil paint, from those photographs.
I’m lucky enough to have a studio on the property where I live, on Inverness Ridge, where I am surrounded by light, trees, birds, cats, foxes, and family. That seems to be the perfect recipe for my work. That, and some travel now and then.
