Join our book discussion about the impact of Chicago’s school closures
Called “the true Mayor of Chicago” by The Cut, sociologist, poet, and playwright Eve Ewing has written a magnificent examination of the state of Chicago’s public schools.
Focusing on several of the 50 school closures under Mayor Rahm Emanuel in 2014, Ewing interviews those affected – from students and families to teachers and administrators, about why these communities of seemingly “failing schools” are fighting so hard (even holding hunger strikes) to keep them open.
Ghosts in the Schoolyard is a masterful, thoughtful, and daring look at the consequences of shutting down the heart of a community: schools.
We'll discuss Ewing's book as well as the bigger question - what is the cost of education? All are welcome to attend!
