Jenny Wantuch – Water Stories

Jenny Wantuch Artist Statement: I have a life-long love story with nature. Being in the elements, and painting what I see and feel about the landscape in front of me is everything! My subject matter is urban and natural landscapes. I seek out and select sceneries from places near and far. I am especially drawn to water and water reflections. I create paintings on site, en plein air, and I use these paintings as reference to create larger studio paintings. During this process I create an opportunity for another layer of personal interpretation. Occasionally I use photography as reference for larger works especially in places where painting from life is not an option. My aim is to inspire and evoke positive feelings and to highlight the beauty and vulnerability in our surrounding environment.

Carin Garland – The Digital Canvas

Carin Garland Artist Statement: After growing up on Long Island, New York, I spent my first two years of college at Carnegie Mellon University in the Painting and Sculpture Department. After leaving Carnegie, I travelled West and finished my BFA with an emphasis in printmaking at San Francisco State University. Over the years, I have produced stone lithography prints, landscape and figurative paintings, one of a kind hand crafted books and iPad drawings. With the use of line, I define shapes that overlap and intersect with each other. I use my developed color palette to emphasize the lights and darks. For me, drawing the human body is like assembling a puzzle, putting the pieces together one by one to form a figure. For many years I have been part of a group of artists who paint and draw from the model. Because of my interest in color and shape, I was losing sight of the figure in my paintings. Five years ago I began using the iPad as a tool to help me refine my drawing skills. In this exhibition of my work I am presenting some figurative, still life, and interior space drawings all done on the iPad.
