Francis Snyder – My Memories of Landscapes
[Pictured: Francis Snyder (detail)]
Francis Snyder Artist Statement:
My Memories of Landscapes are a bridge between my love of abstraction, painting and nature. They are freely painted in a way that they resemble “overall” abstraction more than typical landscapes. As a young man I sat for long periods of time in front of Jackson Pollack’s large drip paintings and Monet’s mural sized, “Water Lilies Series” in the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. For me, at that time, the experiences were similar. I found myself in a meditative, reflective place that is very nourishing. I still find this approach valuable and hope that the viewer finds value as well. The painting is a breath or a prayer that is “frozen in time”, just waiting for someone to awaken it.

Jim Labioda Artist Statement:
My paintings are from past and present, near and far. Painted in oil on canvas, some are frommemory, a photograph or plein air. Did I choose these moments in time or did they choose me? I cannot say…I know that the time spent with these places creates in me the sense of curiosity and wonder that have shaped my paintings. My hope is to convey this to the viewer.
