Our Nature - A Virtual Show In A Time of Sheltering, originally scheduled for a venue in Marin this April, was postponed indefinitely because of Covid-19.
The show, of new paintings by Mill Valley artist Spence Snyder, is now being presented in its entirety online in a presentation which allows viewers to leave comments and read comments by the artist and other guests on the works presented.
Artist statement:
“Our Nature” refers to how humankind has taken ownership of the natural world and also to our predilection toward controlling nature for our own gain. Nature has now served up a plague of world-wide proportions which has effectively put us in a “time out”.
While we reflect we might see some positive signs for the future, clues to the way forward. The sound of the freeway has given way to the sound of birds, the air and water is significantly cleaner and we’ve seen many examples of what the best of human compassion can accomplish.
This work reflects the space just outside my window where the plants and animals bend to our will everyday while we only occasionally reflect on the impact we have on them or realize how much all of this is vital to our well being. I consider this work both a tribute to our environment and a comment on how we attempt to control it.
You are invited to leave comments within the show using the speech icon. There you can read comments by the artist on specific works and any comments by other guests.
