It’s natural to feel protective of our favorite movies—they can inform the way we see the world, introduce us to complex themes, or remind us of a simpler time (like before we knew what racism and sexism were).

Writer Lindy West argues, however, that liking a movie doesn’t always mean that it’s actually good.
