LOCAL>> Ashes to Ashes: Two Artists Addressing Racial Injustice in America

Presented by Commonwealth Club at Streaming Arts

In a time of racial reckoning, a new film looks at a very personal attempt to address racial injustices in this country.

Ashes to Ashes tells the story of avid Star Wars fan and master leatherwork artist Winfred Rembert, who survived an attempted lynching in 1967.

The film also brings to light the extraordinary friendship between Rembert and Dr. Shirley Jackson Whitaker, who is on a mission to memorialize the forgotten 4,000 African-Americans lynched during the Jim Crow era through a special home-going ceremony.

Join us for a discussion with Dr. Whitaker and the film's director, Taylor Rees(View film below)
