LOCAL>> The Black Hair Movement - A Look at the History and Art of Black Hair

Presented by Marin County Free Library and Fairfax Library at Streaming Arts

Join Marin County Free Library and guest speakers to learn about the history, creativity and versatility of Black hair.

Guest speakers Valerie Carpenter and Micah Bledsoe-Holland will lead a fun, online educational discussion about the Black Hair Movement. They will discuss the history and importance of Black hair, the Crown Act, and more.

Pre-registration required with the Zoom link. All ages are welcome and encouraged to attend. Bring your questions - we will have a Q&A session following the presentation.

 

Valerie Carpenter is the Director of Recruitment at Quest Forward Academy Santa Rosa and has a background in Anthropology.

Micah Bledsoe-Holland is the Internship Coordinator at Quest Forward Academy Santa Rosa and has a background in Women/Gender Studies.

Learn more about the Crown Act:
The CROWN (Create a Respectful and Open Workplace for Natural Hair) Act (SB 188) is a California law which prohibits discrimination based on hair style and hair texture by extending protection for both categories under the FEHA and the California Education Code.  California passed the Crown Act on July 3, 2019
