KAREN DALTON: IN MY OWN TIME
WONDERLANDS

Using rare archival footage, lost recordings, revealing samples from Dalton’s poetry read by singer Angel Olsen, and a score by Julia Holter (Never Rarely Sometimes Always), directors Richard Peete and Robert Yapkowitz seek to reintroduce the world to the remarkable voice of blues and folk singer Karen Dalton.

A regular fixture in the thriving Greenwich Village folk music scene of the 1960s, Dalton had her share of admirers, from artists like Nick Cave and contemporaries like Bob Dylan, who said Dalton could sing like Billie Holiday and play guitar like Jimmy Reed.

As most images of Dalton have been lost over time, the film relies on her voice, her music and poetry, and stories from her loved ones to paint a portrait of the artist. Featuring interviews from Cave and Vanessa Carlton, In My Own Time offers us a fine-tuned look at a mysterious, unconventional folk artist whose legacy is ready for rediscovery.
