Gallery Route One is pleased to present a new exhibition, the Tomales High School Artist Showcase 2021.

Through the course of a completely unprecedented year in our time of the pandemic, the art program at Tomales High School has remained a place where the creativity of its students can truly flourish under the school’s vital encouragement. With the avid support of the school staff, these art students continue to develop a pantheon of new imagery which is based upon their individually lived experience and growing identities.

Under the tutelage of art instructor Ginny Geoghegan, the Tomales art program demonstrates a dauntless resilience in the face of a shifting sea of concerns. This year it has been particularly essential to support the students’ art-making by providing the materials, structure, and time needed to process the many emotions which have stemmed from the interruption of their social and personal lives, emotions ranging from joy, to heartbreak, to the ennui of a long continuum of COVID days.

A vibrant art practice functions as an emotional toolkit that has the unique ability to invite both art-maker and viewer along the many paths to other worlds.

In the Tomales High School art classroom, this practice includes building a language for thinking/talking about art, as well as discovering a deepening knowledge about the art materials themselves.
