Exhibiting artwork in a diverse range of media that includes painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, mixed media and sculpture, Gallery Route One is pleased to present the 2020-2021 Annual Artist in the Schools Exhibition, on display in-person at Toby’s Gallery.
Featuring the artwork of more than 300 students from grades pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, the exhibit includes the participation of all four Shoreline District Schools.
The exhibit vividly expresses how our community has grown and changed through ten different art projects which circulated around the collective theme, The Seed, Cycles of Life. Students depict both environmental and cultural issues in a variety of media through ideas which not only embrace core aspects of change in the natural world, but that also reference the discovery of personal growth and identity within each individual student.
Suggesting the idea of cyclical change, the exhibit’s theme explores the concepts of life’s stages from birth, to adolescence, maturity, and even death, as exemplified by the time during which our community was impacted by seasonal fires as well as the global pandemic. The image of the seed encompasses related narratives of migration, travel and limitation during the search for a place to plant our roots.
