An exhibition of paintings and watercolors in conjunction with the Paul Jenkins Estate & from Bob's personal collection

We have worked diligently for 3 years putting this exhibition together and are very pleased to present it to you now.

The paintings of Paul Jenkins have come to represent the spirit, vitality, and invention of post World War II American abstraction. Employing an unorthodox approach to paint application, Jenkins is as much identified with the process of controlled paint-pouring and canvas manipulation as with the gem-like veils of transparent and translucent color which have characterized his work since the late 1950’s.

Over more than seven decades, his paintings have been widely exhibited around the world. His first American retrospective, organized by Philippe de Montebello and Gerald Nordland, was held at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (1971), traveling to the San Francisco Museum of Art (1972).

Major retrospectives were held at the Palm Springs Desert Museum; Musée Picasso, Antibes; Kunstverein, Cologne; Kestner Gesellschaft, Hanover; Palais des Beaux-Arts, Charleroi. In 1999, the Hofstra Museum presented a retrospective of his early paintings from 1954 to 1960.

His works are found in international museum and private collections including the Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Brooklyn Museum in New York; the National Museum of American Art and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C.; the Tate Gallery in London; Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris; and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.

In California, his work is found in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the San Jose Museum of Art, the LA County Museum, San Diego Museum of Art, Santa Barbara Museum of Art and Palm Springs Desert Museum.

Last exhibited at RGFA in 2017
