Bay Area artist (Santa Rosa) Lucy Martin will lead a 2 1/2 hour tutorial in painting a California Buckeye.

She will use gouache primarily, as well as some watercolor,  and will introduce some of her gouache techniques.

Participants will not only observe how she creates certain effects but will be offered exercises or practice methods to learn to use gouache to create intense color and interesting texture.

Lucy will demonstrate using layering of washes for deep, intense color, and will show how she uses white and light-over-dark in various ways to create a sense of density and depth.

Participants may just watch or follow along as Lucy demonstrates. A list of suggested materials will be sent out to participants before the tutorial. There will be time for questions at the end of the session.
