Memoirists speak about the value of personal story to heal, transform, support, and inspire
With Carolyn Lee Arnold, Francine Falk-Allen, and Rachel Michelberg
Moderated by Brooke Warner
For centuries, the only stories that got told were men’s stories. Women’s stories were written out of history, and even in more modern times, deemed less important, domestic, or pedestrian.
In the past three decades, the explosion of women’s stories through the vehicle of memoir and personal essay have transformed the literary landscape, and pushed women’s stories to the forefront of our national consciousness.
They’ll speak about wisdom, creativity, and resilience in the writing process, and why their stories emerged in the memoir form.
This will be a panel that speaks to what drives us to create, what barriers we face when we do so, and what we learn in the process about ourselves and the world around us.
