Art exhibits for November, in the Lobby and Crescendo Gallery – with ArtWalk receptions
First Tuesday ArtWalk:
* November 2, 5:30 - 7:30 pm
Lobby Exhibit: Chris Chaffin
The two primary components of my art are autobiographical and observational. On the one hand, I source imagery from various aspects of myself and my history such as experience in the world of advertising, cross-cultural encounters and past travels, both real and imaginary.
On the other, I incorporate impressions of daily life such as the chaos of urban density and din, technology’s disorienting impact on our senses and random details, graphics and things momentarily noticed in passing. Painting with acrylic on wood panels, the focus is on abstraction and how the elements of color, pattern, shape and texture create visual surprise when presented in unexpected combinations.
Crescendo Exhibit: Anne Faught
Doing art is the way I have always integrated experiences; bringing the outside to the inside, the inside to the outside, the invisible to the visible. It is a powerful vehicle for me and I love working on that ambiguous edge. My drawings lean towards the representational, my paintings pushing into more numinous realms, the sculptural pieces spanning both.
I feel fortunate to have found this practice early in my life. I am currently exploring the theme of routes and lines, how we are connected through time and space by visible and invisible strands of communication lines, blood lines, shipping lines, boundaries, harmonies, etc —our trails from the beginning of time.
I am a mixed media artist living and working in Woodacre, CA. I taught art and art history for 28 years and recently retired, happy to be devoting time to my own work. I have paintings in private and corporate collections around the country and participate in numerous local exhibits.
